HARPERS FERRY - Ross Swiger of Harpers Ferry was chosen as the sixth winner of West Virginians for Better Transportation's 2009 Gas Tax Calculator Giveaway.
Swiger was randomly selected from more than 1,000 entrants to the contest and will receive a $250 gift gasoline debit card.
West Virginians for Better Transportation launched the contest on July 20. The prize is intended to cover a person's average state gasoline tax for a one-year period.
This is the second time that the group has sponsored the contest in an attempt to promote use of the coalition's gas tax calculator tool, available on its Web site. Visitors use the tool to determine their gasoline taxes based upon miles traveled and their vehicle's fuel efficiency. The contest seeks to get more people to use the calculator, and in turn become better educated about how they are contributing to help support the state's infrastructure system.
