Regional meeting to focus on transportation needs

HUNTINGTON — Local government, business and community leaders from Cabell, Putnam, Mason and Wayne counties are invited to a Wednesday transportation meeting at Marshall University to get an in-depth look into West Virginia’s surface transportation system.

This is the second of seven forums being held throughout West Virginia focusing mainly on funding. Organizers also plan to discuss the impact of gasoline prices and the Department of Highway’s six-year, $20 billion list of projects.

“Educating our local leaders about the state’s transportation system and its needs is vital,” said Lisa Dooley, the executive director of the West Virginia Municipal League. “I think these regional education sessions will be critical in getting a greater understanding not only about our current situation, but also what the future holds.”

The meeting is scheduled for 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Rahall Appalachian Transportation Institute on the Marshall University campus.
