West Virginians for Better Transportation announced that more than 250 businesses and organizations have joined the nonprofit coalition, which was established in 2006 to highlight the need to bolster the state Road Fund.
Verizon Communications, Chesapeake Energy Corp. and the Hardwood Alliance are the latest businesses and organizations to join, the coalition said. In addition, more than 3,500 individuals have joined, the coalition said.
Joe Deneault, chairman of West Virginians for Better Transportation, said in prepared remarks, "Building a coordinated, statewide coalition of interested groups and individuals has been central to the organization's efforts to educate key audiences about the state's transportation system and its future challenges. The fact that we have created such a large and broad coalition in such a short period of time is indicative of the strong interest and unified concerns that West Virginians from all walks of life have regarding our state's transportation system."
More information about the coalition is posted on its Web site at www.keepwvmoving.org.
