WVBT Gas Tax Giveaway Contest generates thousands of entries
Charleston—Shirley LaPann of Parkersburg and Craig Nickerson of Wheeling were the seventh and eighth winners of West Virginians for Better Transportation’s 2009 Gas Tax Calculator Giveaway. Both were randomly selected from more than two thousand entrants to the contest and each will receive a $250 gasoline debit card.
West Virginians for Better Transportation (WVBT) launched the contest on July 20. The prize is intended to cover a person’s average state gasoline taxes for a one-year period, which is about $250.
This is the second year that West Virginians for Better Transportation sponsored the contest, which is designed to promote use of the coalition’s gas tax calculator tool on its website.
More than 2,300 visitors to www.keepwvmoving.org used the calculator to determine their gasoline taxes based on certain variables, such as average amount of travel and a vehicle’s gasoline mileage rate. The contest sought to educate more West Virginians about how they contribute to the state’s transportation system.
As part of WVBT’s contest, a $250 gasoline debit card was provided to eight people who were randomly selected from those who entered.
