Publication:  WVBT Press Release
Release Date: 05/22/2007

Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians for Better Transportation (WVBT) has taken another important step in its ongoing statewide education and outreach efforts by officially naming its inaugural board of directors.

The 22-member board includes a diverse mix that includes representatives from business, labor, tourism, local government and the state’s transportation industry.  The members also have been selected to ensure geographic representation, generally, from across the state.

“We really couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to represent and direct this statewide organization,” said Joe Deneault, WVBT chairman. “These people truly understand the importance of a safe, efficient and modern transportation system and appreciate how this vital infrastructure supports jobs, economic development and our state’s economy.”

WVBT board members include:

• Ted Bostic – Chamber of Commerce of Martinsburg and Berkeley County

The duties of the board will involve directing the organization’s continued mission and helping to determine the most effective ways to inform and educate West Virginians about the challenges facing our transportation system – now and in the future, Deneault added.

“The diversity and range of voices that these directors represent will help to ensure that we not only get a variety of views and opinions about our mission, but also that we broaden the campaign’s reach and visibility.”

West Virginians for Better Transportation is a coalition working to educate West Virginians – and our leaders, in particular – about the importance of maintaining a safe, efficient and modern transportation infrastructure. The coalition is reaching out to a wide spectrum of organizations that rely on and value the importance of a good surface transportation system. WVBT also is spearheading a statewide education campaign, “Keep West Virginia Moving,” designed to generate public awareness of the state transportation system and foster debate about the ability to meet current and future needs.
