Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians for Better Transportation (WVBT) has received national recognition for its public relations and education campaign. On March 13, 2008, the Contractors Association of West Virginia (CAWV) accepted an award for “Best Infrastructure Awareness Campaign” for the WVBT campaign. The award was presented as part of the Associated General Contractors of America’s (AGC) recent Annual Convention in Las Vegas.

“Many of the industry’s challenges must be tackled at the chapter and local levels,” said AGC President Steve Massie. “The public relations programs that we honor tonight are some of the best examples of what AGC chapters are doing to promote our members and the industry.”

The CAWV was one of five organizations honored with a Chapter PR Award for 2007. Categories included Best Overall Campaign, Best Individual Campaign, Best Community Service Campaign and Best Infrastructure Awareness Campaign. Winning projects included extensive media exposure in all forms, covering efforts made to improve the industry’s image through various service projects, educational endeavors and training for young constructors and students.

Accepting the award for the CAWV and WVBT were AGC Directors Sam Bowling, Dougherty Company; Bob Orders Jr., Orders Construction Company; Charlie Neighborgall, Neighborgall Construction Company; and CAWV Executive Director Mike Clowser.

“West Virginians for Better Transportation is one of the largest coalitions that has been formed in our state, with nearly 250 partner organizations, government officials and companies,” said Joe Deneault, WVBT chairman. “We are pleased with the progress we have had to date with our outreach and education efforts, and we are honored that the AGC has selected our program as one of the best in the nation.”
